Wedding of the Year: Jayde and Alex win August

By: /Updated on: March 16, 2022

An elaborately planned proposal led to an arty wedding celebration for these two young designers who have won our August Wedding of the Year competition.

Congratulations Jayde and Alex and their photographer Damien Furey!

They have taken out the eighth spot in our Top 12, winning a $1000 voucher from Michael Hill and the chance to vie for a luxe (second) honeymoon at InterContinental Fiji flying business class with Fiji Airways.

Alex’s proposal involved kerosene and rope and although that sounds almost criminal, to Jayde, it was unbelievably romantic!

She says, “Without me knowing Alex had been creating an enormous sign out of kerosene-soaked rope saying ‘Will You Marry Me?’ that was lit on FIRE!”

The NSW couple, who recently moved to Tasmania, chose not to live together before getting hitched which meant their engagement was quite short – just six months.

Vows were exchanged at Pymble Uniting Church where rope made a cameo appearance in a hand-tying ceremony. Then it was onto warehouse-turned-restaurant, Koskela Kitchen, for the reception.

Flowers featured prominently from the girls’ gorgeous bouquets to Jayde’s amazing hairpiece and Alex even ramped things up with a floral tie from Roger David.

“The evening culminated into a night of dance-offs, sweat and LOTS of laughter,” recalls Jayde.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to our eight other nominees who sent us shivers with their unbelievable weddings and stories.
