    Biopsy...

    Postby Lissat_81 on Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:40 pm

    Hi girls...

Question... have any of you had a biopsy done and was it bad?? My renal specialist has told me I may need to have one done on my kidney, depending on the results of the next lot of tests and I am freaking out a bit... want to know what to expect etc so I am prepared. Asked him outright if it would hurt, he said I would feel pressure, under local blah blah but when doctors say pressure, it makes me think yeah right.. I told him hopefully my results would be ok and would not need it done but he did not seem convinced :o/

Any info anyone can give me would be appreciated.

    Thank you! :)

I haven't had a biopsy but :cuddles: and I hope you don't need it done!

The only time I've had a local and felt pressure was getting my wisdom teeth out in the chair, which was a fair amount of pressure but not too bad, but I assume the pressure from a kidney biopsy would be very different.

I am hoping not either Aurin :o/ Especially as I have spoken to a friend of mine I met off a support website online and she said she did not want to "put me off" and maybe my experience would be different but with her they just did the local and no internal anesthetic and she felt pain, rather than pressure. My doctor did not mention get anything other than a local so has me worried. Might mention it to him when I see him in February and say I want the additional, going by what a friend has told me. Maybe he will take what I say on board, who knows :o/

Hi Larissa, being stressed over something like this makes it so much harder doesn't it! I've found though, that with the best intentions in the world some of the support groups have in fact given me some of the scariest stories that have been completely unnecessary when it came to the crunch. Eventually I decided to steer clear of them and face up to the medical profession on my own and it worked much better for me. Comparing too much and sharing too many stories gave me too much to think about, most of which turned out to be irrelevant in my case and it had just stressed and scared me for no reason. I really hope you get some good results and perhaps you won't need your biopsy. If you do though, hold tight to the thought that your specialist does a zillion of these. If he only uses a local, I'm sure there's a good reason for that. Take care of yourself. Hope you can find some good stress busting techniques to help from now until then - guided relaxation could be worth a shot. All the best!

Thanks Persephone. I will keep that in mind. I just wanted to know what to expect at least so prepared you know? If that makes sense. I hate to be surprised. At least if I know what could possibly happen (possibly being the word), it will not come out of left field. I also needed to know a rough idea too of how long I would be out of commission from work, if it came to that, as we are down staff (but work surprised me thank god and told me yesterday they are hiring more staff for the new year, thank god!!!). I think I will be getting it done anyhow.. just wishful thinking hoping I won't need to. I actually said to him I hope my test results come out good and I won't need it but he basically said since we are trying for a baby, its best we know what we are looking at blah blah, so I am starting to accept it will more than likely be required... wait and see though...
