    Gold Coast Hotel Suggestions?

Postby flagstaffIV on Wed Feb 22, 2012 11:48 pm

    Hey ladies,

So I am starting to put together info/budget for our honeymoon. Hopefully if everything pans out (money wise) we'll be heading to the Gold Coast. :groove: Our original destination was Malaysia, but we brought a new car so that went out the window. There's always next year! Depending on how funds are though (if we have abit more in our budget), we may look at spending a few days in Cairns/Port Douglas/ Noosa etc... not sure yet.

    Any suggestions for Hotels?
We obviously want something close to the beach, near the main street, with amenities like pool, spa, massages etc. Must have a kitchenette setup. Definitely needs to be at least 3 stars as FH can be abit picky, and a fairly large hotel. Last time we stayed at a little B&B in Daylesford and FH couldn't sleep the whole time we were there. (Oops!)

Also, happy for any sight seeing rec's ... Theme parks are the obvious choice.

    Thanks!!!

Get onto wotif or stayz - you can put all your search criteria in and it will give you some matches!

Since I grew up on the Coast we never stayed there but when FH and I got together he took me for a romantic weekend away and we stayed at the Watermark Hotel....SO NICE!!!! Not sure how much you want to spend though - I think it may be a bit $$$ but they do packages as we got a romance one so maybe they do a honeymoon one? Oh also not sure if they have a kitchenette  I can't remember!

    Thanks girls...

Have done a few days of research... and geez it's expensive! Talked to FH and said we would be better off going to Malaysia as per our original plan!

    :agree:

I would suggest anything along the beach front in Broadbeach, its gorgeous and not as hectic at night like Surfers IYKWIM?

Theme parks are a good 30 minute drive from Surfers/Broadbeach, but there is public transport etc. If you're into rides (roller coasters etc) Dreamworlds the go, if you like shows etc, Movieworlds the go, but I personally love Seaworld LOL

I was wondering if you might find Malaysia would actually work out cheaper in the end. If you can get a good price on flights, you'll find accommodation/sightseeing etc a LOT cheaper!

    Umm Palazzo Versace?

I like to stay around the broadbeach area as it's close to surfers and burleigh as I'm not too fond of touristy places like surfers.

we stayed in a nice little apartment at the imperial surf, in surfers. walked everywhere. really nice, well priced!

do not forget to go to draculas. itts freaking awesome. food is great. cocktails are greater and the show had me in hysterics. its cheaper mid week, and as an added bonus they dont stare at you like a freak if you dress up! ( but I have a slight goth fetish!) Seriously, Draculas is the bomb, cant wait to go back!

also we went to sea world ( OMG SPONGEBOB!!!!!!!!), but the other theme park things dont do it for us so we didnt go there. The markets are lovely, and I think I just generally liked the place!
we are simply meant to be

The centre of the gold coast is dirty and full of asian tourists, criminals and bogans. Get as far away from surfers paradise as you can and it becomes quite beautiful. there is nothing romantic about a hi-rise in surfers for a honeymoon

That's a little degrading and harsh don't you think?? There is nothing wrong with Asian tourists, they bring a huge amount of money into our country. And I'm pretty sure most of the people that LIVE there will object to you calling them all criminals and bogans.

I'll agree on a Friday or Saturday night it can get a little rough... but seriously for the most part there is nothing wrong with Surfers Paradise.
