The only thing I truly regret paying for is $500 for the videographer. I know, i know... its not a large expense, BUT not only is the final product total rubbish that Ive only seen once, and never again, but he was a nightmare at the wedding and he upset a lot of people. Forget the fact that his assistant didnt show up, he missed important parts of the wedding, and was in the toilet at the start of our first dance, despite getting a time sheet of the entire day.. so yeah. Big waste.

    Hi,

I'm still in the planning stages, but the biggest waste of money for us is going to be having a complete second celebration for FH's family cos none of them are coming to Australia for our wedding (we're living in the UK) :( -- But we're making it a pay-bar and spit-roast, which should be yummy and quite cheap!

My BEST money saving endeavour is my wedding dress - I'm only spending slightly over HALF my budget!! And it's gorgeous, and the real-thing. I saw the dress in one shop, tried it on and loved it. Then went to another shop and the same dress is £150 cheaper! And they're more helpful and nice, and the shop's more convenient for where I live!

    Yay!!!
The only stupid question is the one you failed to ask.

Ugh, our biggest waste of money was paying for 5 hours of alcohol. The reception went from 6pm-11pm and we paid for unlimited beer and wine for the 5 hours, but I think maybe a third of the guests kinda disappeared at around 9pm- a lot of them started drinking before the reception and were too wasted to stick around lol. I think it would''ve been better to pay for 3 hours and let everyone else pay after that!

    Hey Francesca,

I'm planning my wedding in Brissy at the moment!
I have just decided to not have disposable cameras after reading the other girls' posts. There would be a lot of stupid/naughty photos from the 'Friend' tables.
    No to video too.
Still having bomboneire - I am giving everone succulent plants that my mum and I cultivated from one large one - no cost :D and have bought plastic pots on eBay for $25. Will wrap them in paper and tie with a ribbon.

I am a florist (but now work for Edible Blooms), so am pretty creative. I am buying 2 mudcakes from the Cheesecake shop, popping the smaller on on top and decorating it with flowers and chocolate dipped strawberries because we do them at work.

My suggestion for you is to approach the ladies at Southbank TAFE School of Floristy. I did my TAFE stint there and I did a few weddings while studying. The students are taught by some of the best florists around and the teachers can suggest their most talented students to do your flowers at a fraction of the cost. They can also do a cake spray for your cake if you want to go down the same avenue as me! Florists mark up a lot because their overheads are so high and all you really need is a talented florist. You can see the students work and talk with them about what you want, so it is really worth a look!

If you get any other great tips, let me know! Especially about photographers, I'm still looking too.

Good point. I have been to so many venues where this is the case. Its hard not to supply dessert though. . .

I'm paying $295 for a 3 tier cake to feed 75 people which I think is pretty reasonable. We're also having dessert but it's a sit down meal so people get one serve and that's it.

I think my biggest waste of money so far would have to be the jewellery then my veil. I paid $600 for 7 sets of necklace and earrings (all hand made) and $200 for my veil and seriously can't see where the money lies. I really wish I had researched it better and shopped around before impulse purchasing like I ALWAYS do.

we are getting our cake from the cheesecake shop.. two lovely decorated quite large love hearts next to each other, to serve 130, for $150 dollars.. this thread has given me something to think about though!! maybe I don't need a disposable camera on every table... I was also thinking a large basket of parasols waiting for guests at the ceremony, since our wedding is January in Albury outside, could be up to 40 degrees! Suggestions?

Our biggest waste of money was probably the video. It might be nice to watch 20 years from now, but it is just so corny that I sort of cringe to watch it.

The photography on the other hand, I think was great value. We show our album to everyone and we even have a flick through.
