    Solid recipes and ideas

Postby mrskc on Wed Apr 11, 2012 5:33 pm

Hi ladies, as DD starts to eat more regular and normal meals I've been trying to think of recipes that the whole family can enjoy. So... I was wondering if you could post up your ideas for solid feeds for your little ones :) I'll start:

    Spag bol
    - mince
    - tomato soup
    - spaghetti (I used pasta alphabet shapes)
    - EBM or formula

    optional extras
    - garlic
    - mixed herbs

Brown the mince, add the tomato soup and once it has been simmering for 5-10 minutes add cooked pasta. Blitz in a blender/stick mixer until a smooth-ish consistency. Store in the freezer in small servings. When unfrozen add some formula/ebm to the mix until you're happy with consistency. Serve warm or cold :)

Note: I made this when DD was 6 months old and I was feeding her purees/mash. These days at 10 months old I don't blitz her food anymore. Or freeze it for that matter either!

I don't have exact amounts of ingredients as I cook by sight/taste.

We had another joint family meal last night, the good old Bangers and Mash :) We gave DD cubes of potato, broccoli, peas, carrot and slices of 1 sausage (we took the skin off so she didn't get any well-cooked bits). We had the same as DD but we mashed our potato and DH added gravy to his meal :) Simple, quick and healthy!

    great idea for a thread

    Chicken and Vegie soup

poach chicken breast and vegies (vegies can be anything you want)

can be served drained and just as chunks, or vitamised and as a soup

Just thought I'd share this recipe, I made these for DD today, my plan is to freeze them and have them as ready-made lunch/snack options. DD and I shared one this afternoon and they taste great! Fairly healthy for the little ones too :) Oh, and I got 18 large muffins out of this mixture.

    Savoury Muffins

    Makes 12 muffins

    Ingredients:

    Basic Mixture
    2 cups self-raising flour
½ cup grated Mainland tasty cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley leaves
    125g Western Star Butter, melted
    1 cup milk
    1 egg, lightly beaten

    Flavour Variation
    Ham and Corn
    ¾ cup chopped ham
    125g can creamed corn

    Method:
Combine flour, cheese and parsley in a bowl. Add butter, milk, egg and chosen flavouring and stir with a large metal spoon until just combined. Do not over mix. Spoon mixture into 12 x 1/3 cup capacity buttered muffin pans. Bake at 180°C for 15-20 minutes or until golden and cooked.

It's from the Western Star Butter website if you want to see other variations that they suggest or to look at some of their recipes :)
