    Know much about couture??

    Postby Kitty04 on Thu Aug 23, 2012 3:32 pm

    Hi ladies,

I'm wondering who went down the couture road instead of off the rack for their wedding dress?

I have fallen in love with a few designs but they are all couture, and I'm not too sure if it will come in under my budget.
My budget at the moment sits around max $4000, Can I get a couture gown for this much?

Any helpful advice or tips is much appreciated as I don't want to waste mine or the stores time if this is unlikely.

Has anyone dealt with personallised weddings in Earlwood or know much about them? Im in love with their dresses.
Any other recommendations would also be wonderful!!!

    Thank you :)

Could you go to just a dressmaker, rather than a coutourist? (I think I just made that word up).
If you get one that' used to making wedding dresses, it may still work out cheaper and they can still work to a design you discuss with them.

Thanks ladies, I definately see what your saying. Have either of you used a dressmaker before? Or know of any in Sydney? :)

To put it in some perspective for you -

I was going to go down the road of having my dress made rather than buying one:

    Dressmaker quote: $1700 - $2600
    Couturist quote: $3500 - $5500

The cheapest of each was no beading the dearest was full beading in Swarovski crystals.

Thanks comet, that's a great comparison.

Do you mind me asking what you chose in the end, how it turned out and if you would have done anything differently?

I ended up buying a gown from the Impressions range, I bought it online from America so ended up paying $700.

Had I gone down the path of making my dress - I would have gone to the dressmaker. I had seen her work and she was fantastic.

I had a look at you photos and your dress is stunning. It looks like you made the right choice :)

Thanks for your advice, I have taken it on board and I may look around a bit before making any decisions!

Thanks moonblue, I am definatly keeping an eye out for a good dressmaker. The reason I wanted to go to couture was because I love that modern look they put into their dresses, so fingers crossed I can find a dressmaker who can see the vision I have lol

i have always dreamt of my wedding gown to be a couture one ever since i was a teen but then i had came tor ealize that it is better if i come up with my own design and have it made by a dressmaker. that way i will really be able to get the dream gown that i have always wanted without having to cost so much becasue of the brand or couturist also you can save much if you chose your fabric well and you may even get great deals from fabric stores too.with much imagination and creativity you will surely have a wedding gown that will be very unique and memorable
