I had a hair trial, not because I didn't trust the hair stylist, but because I thought it would be a good opportunity to see how the style suited me and to work any kinks out.
I'm glad I did it, as there were a few minor changes that I wanted done for when my hair is done at the wedding, otherwise the look wouldn't have been what I wanted.
I'll be getting a makeup trial, too, but it's my cousin doing the makeup, so I'm a bit more laid back about that one.

I would definitely recommend a hair and make up trial. With my first trial for hair I realised that the style I wanted didn't suit so we had a play around and got a basic idea of what would suit. On the day the hair was done perfectly and I have no complaints at all! My first trial for my make up was horrible, they used the wrong coloured foundation and seemed to think that when I said I wanted a natural look that I meant lots of browns, when in fact I wanted it to look natural with nudes and soft pinks, like I wasn't wearing make up at all (don't usually wear make up so just wanted to look like myself, only flawless ). I asked for a different girl for my second trial and she understood what I meant and I walked out feeling confident with the knowledge that I would have a great artist working on me on the big day. On my wedding day, I truly believe that my make up was flawless, I looked like a much prettier version of myself and I was unbelieveably happy with the job they did. SO, if you got through all of that, what I'm trying to say is that even though you may think you've chosen a great hair and MUA, it can't hurt to get a trial done, that way you have time to play around with your look to make sure it's everything you wanted for your wedding day

DEFINITElY get the trial done! I was told the by the place I was going to book (did NOT end up booking with them) that the look I wanted was easy enough for them to do (wanted the older style of makeup, bright red lips, dark eyes etc and a hairstyle that matched). I got there and they had nothing but PINK makeup in all their cases and told me I should "find my own that I liked and bring with me on the day". As for hair... they said no, would not suit, not doing it, will do something else and see how you feel. From then on I was not happy and told them did not think I would like it but basically pressured me and insisted it would like great... anyhow as I thought, I HATED it (just a typical updo and not even nicely done, clumpy bits here and there, too high and just not at all what I wanted).
I left really unhappy, to the point I was nearly in tears at the place because they kept insisting it was great and I would "get used to it". I got home and bawled my eyes out (for some reason I got emotional about it, probably because I had wanted a nice hairdo and makeup for my hens night that night and NOT what I got) and DH said no, they should do what you want and they did not listen to you so find someone else, not using them. lol so that is exactly what I did.
So lesson from that - they do not always tell the truth and you want to be sure they can do the look you are after.

Thanks ladies!! When does everyone recommend getting it done, I would think quite close to the wedding? My hens night will be a week before the big day But two months before the wedding is my birthday, so I'm thinking that will be a better date

I got my hair trial done about a year ahead of the wedding, so that I'd have plenty of time to find a new one if something went pear shaped.
