You should have an idea of the style and theme of your Wedding as well as the catering, whether it is a cocktail or a seated reception you are interested in. Plan your guest numbers roughly so you know what sized reception spaces you are looking for. It is also good to come up with a rough budget before looking for wedding venues.
Food is extremely important part of your Wedding

Working with a venue who has great relationships with thee suppliers.
Picking your wedding venue is so important. It sets the tone and it essential to realizing your vision. You need to make sure you know what you want so that you know what you're looking for. Then you need to break it down for yourself; budgets, is it at a convenient location, is it already booked on your selected date, capacity, layout, restrictions, parking, facilities, and caterer.
It is wise if you are considering an outdoor wedding to ensure that the venue has a wet weather logistics plan, and a wet weather option available for your ceremony. You also need to think about timing of your event, and if the venue has sound restrictions on their licence or D/A. Most venues do have sound policies and in order for you to accomplish what you need included, work back from their sound down time and plan the start of your day earlier if needs be. A venue that has a stylist, and a styling store can make your life easier as it lessens what you have to do, and takes a lot of the anxiety out of planning.
You should first consider weddings that you have been to previously and what you liked.
Get a list of your likes that the venues provided for example - was there ample and free parking ?? Was the food incredible?? Did they have something unique ??
From there apply these elements to venues you are considering as well as your couple deal breakers. Couple deal breakers are things that you both must have like - Flexibility to tailor your beverages or no Noise restrictions.
Use this little list at every venue as a reminder to ask the questions that really matter and ensure you are comparing everyone equally. Every couple is different so make sure you are able to work with a venue that encourages that !
If you are using our out door venue then consideration needs to be give to the time of year you are planning your wedding. We suggest outdoor weddings are held from October to the end of April.
The number of guests attending should also be considered in line with the venue capacity.

Catering, preferred suppliers or own caterers
Liquor Licence
Responsible service of alcohol
Style of event - cocktail or dinner
Ask lots of questions and do not be afraid to make several calls to the venue
When choosing a venue, you should first of all feel comfortable with the functions coordinator who will handle your function. Also look at:
1. Venue flexibility in terms of food and beverages choices
2. Any theme you wish to have for your wedding
3. City views
4. Total minimum spend
things to consider are, if the vernue is leased or owned , how long experience the management have and if they have own chef and his/her experience or outside caterer , they can cater for any special meal requirment ,
the style of the room and the surrounding Gardens

1) How long has the venue been in operation for, and do they have a history of hosting wedding reception with guest numbers similar to you,
2) Can you venue host both a ceremony and reception for non religious ceremonies
3) if there an events team on hand to service and support your wedding, as opposed to just one person.
4) Location - does the location suit your guests and your family and friends. Are the Logistics or having your guests travel 2 hours to a regional venue going to work?
5) Can you get a feel for the style of catering and service offered by the venue.
6) Car parking, is carparking available and are there charges involved ?

This is different for every couple. You need to have a good idea of what you both see as your perfect day and what details that would entail. A checklist that you can use for each venue is a great idea.
An important question to ask any venue (outside the decorations, food and beverages details, which are the 3 main things couples consider), is "will the person I have been dealing with at the venue be there on the night to supervise the WHOLE event? " This can be crucial to the evening going exactly to plan.
