Great question. It might seem like an MC just introduces speakers and reads the run sheet off of the card but it can be a little more complicated than that.
A great MC will be spending most of their night moving and working the entire room including back of house with venue staff.
What if the bridal couple/party are running 30+ minutes late, who will keep the guests informed, occupied and entertained?
If so, who will then re structure the rest of the evening run sheet right there and then to make everything later still tie in.
Who else would work behind the scenes in the back of the kitchen with the co ordinator to make sure food isn’t being served/cleared while speeches are happening? Or even being served on time/or delaying so the rest of the evening can run on time?
A good pressional MC will even help with your run sheet to optimise the best service from the venue kitchen too.
All of the small things help too, like proper introductions of speakers, including on the spot special requests by the bridal couple. Even keeping photographers, videographers, DJ’s all informed of the bridal couples requests and scheduled in unforeseen changes during the night. Helping with elderly or guests that need riding services home and even co ordinating 400+ guests to form structured closing of the event.
