Happy New Year, I am sure it is going to be for you with planning a wedding. Congratulations, how exciting, embarking on a very important stage of your life.

My name is Gwen Ford, Shoreline Ceremonies, I am an authorised Marriage Celebrant.

Leaving the booking of your Celebrant until last may not give you enough time to perfect your ceremony. Once you know where you want to be married and have booked your venue, it is advisable to book your Celebrant.

How long a Celebrant is booked for depends if you mean from 1st meeting to the Marriage Ceremony or whether you mean on the day.

In my experience the booking includes the preparation, changes to the wording until you are both happy with a ceremony that suits your tastes. This can take six to twelve weeks depending on how slow or fast the send and reply to changes takes. The cost includes the initial meeting, the draft ceremony, finalising the ceremony, unlimited phone calls & emails, a rehearsal and the ceremony.

On the day it depends how long your ceremony will be, on average 1/2 to 3/4 hr. I always arrive with plenty of time to meet the groom and attendants, check that everything is in place and working, then await your arrival. The amount of time can be discussed to suit you.

Is there a good template to plan the timeline for my wedding day?

I'm wanting a Chinese tea ceremony in the morning, ceremony in the afternoon & reception in the evening. What's a good guide for lengths of time for these events?

Hi Kristine,
The tea ceremony should take at least one hour to respect each set of parents.
It should be unhurried, leisurely, and conducted with good grace.
The afternoon ceremony will be timed depending on the rituals you wish to honour in your ceremony. Your Celebrant will help you with this.
As a guide somewhere between 35-45 minutes.
The gap between the afternoon ceremony and reception should not be longer than an hour, as it can appear to be disrespectful to guests to keep them waiting for a long time, unless you have planned something for them to do.
